THE ESSENTIALS, DONE WELL
Familiar file management, with the tools you need for working with object storage.
Connect Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, MinIO, and custom endpoints. Switch between saved connections without losing your place.
Navigate with tabs and breadcrumbs, search and sort objects, and choose the view that fits the job.
Drag and drop uploads, download folders, and follow progress, retries, and failures from one transfer center.
Use familiar shortcuts or Copy to… across buckets and connections, with explicit conflict choices.
Preview text, images, and PDFs, inspect object details, and edit supported text files in place.
Use read-only connections and bucket or prefix restrictions. Credentials are kept in Windows Credential Manager.
UP AND RUNNING
The same familiar rhythm, whether you work with a single bucket or several providers.
Choose a provider, enter your endpoint and credentials, then test the connection.
Open a bucket, move through folders, and use tabs, search, and sorting to navigate.
Drag files in, download folders, preview content, or copy and move across locations.

LESS CONTEXT SWITCHING
Bring the storage you use into one organized workspace. Open your destinations in tabs, jump back to favorites or recent locations, and stay focused on the task—not the provider console.
CONTROL THAT STARTS WITH YOU
Cavdeck is a desktop client, not a hosted storage service. It connects from your Windows PC to the endpoints you configure, while your storage provider remains in control of access.
Read the security and privacy notesConnect from your PC to configured S3-compatible endpoints—without routing your files through a Cavdeck service.
Connection credentials are stored in Windows Credential Manager. No Cavdeck account is needed.
Use read-only connections or limit access to a bucket and key prefix. Your provider's permissions remain authoritative.
Cavdeck is free and open source under GPL-3.0-or-later. Commercial use is allowed, provided you follow the license terms. Third-party components keep their own licenses.
Cavdeck supports Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, MinIO, and custom S3-compatible endpoints. The service must support the S3 API; available operations can vary by provider.
No. Cavdeck is a Windows desktop app. Windows 11 is the primary test target, and the published installers are for Windows x64.
Listing all buckets requires permission from your storage provider. If your credentials can access one bucket but cannot list the account's buckets, enter that bucket directly in the connection settings. You can also set a key prefix if needed.
Yes, when both endpoints support the operations needed for a safe transfer. The data passes through your PC rather than moving directly between providers, so keep the PC online and check for provider request or transfer charges. For a move, Cavdeck copies and verifies the destination before deleting the source; this is not an atomic rename. A move also requires permission to delete the source and to write to and verify the destination.
Cross-connection transfers rely on source and destination support for the safeguards Cavdeck uses, including ETag checks, ranged reads, and conditional writes. S3-compatible providers do not all implement the same operations. Cavdeck does not bypass these checks, so a transfer may be unavailable for an endpoint pair that lacks a required capability.
When a name conflict occurs, choose Skip, Keep Both, or Overwrite. Cavdeck will not overwrite a file just because its name matches; you must choose that action for the operation.
Cavdeck previews supported text files up to 1 MiB, images up to 15 MiB, and PDFs up to 100 MiB. Supported image formats include PNG, JPG/JPEG, GIF, BMP, and WebP. PDF preview also requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
No. Cavdeck is a file manager for S3-compatible storage, not a folder-sync or backup tool. You can upload and download files when you choose, but it does not keep a local folder in continuous sync.
No. S3 stores objects under keys; what looks like a folder is a key prefix. Renaming or deleting a folder can affect multiple objects under that prefix. Cavdeck previews the affected objects and asks for confirmation before a rename or delete, so review the item count and target carefully.
The installers on GitHub Releases are currently unsigned, so Windows may show an Unknown Publisher or SmartScreen warning. Download Cavdeck only from the official GitHub Releases page and compare the SHA-256 checksum with the value published for that release.
For providers that support presigned downloads, Cavdeck can create a time-limited presigned download link (GET request). This does not make the bucket public or change its permissions. Anyone with the link can download the object until it expires, so treat the link like a password. You can also generate a public object URL when an HTTPS bucket URL is configured; the object must already be publicly accessible. Cavdeck does not change bucket or object permissions.
